CBS renews bulk of current schedule for next year. Is The Mentalist cancelled?

So what does that leave, you ask? Just "The Mentalist," "Intelligence" and "Hostages."

Of the three, "Hostages" is without a doubt a goner. Likely the only thing that saved it from getting axed before it finished its season was that it was billed from the start as a limited series.

"Intelligence" is doing significantly better than "Hostages," but still not great and almost sure to be canceled as well. It's season average-to-date of about seven million viewers might cut it on other networks, but not CBS, where top draw "NCIS" is averaging nearly 19.25 million this season.

Finally, "The Mentalist" is more of a toss-up. Though it has the best ratings of the three, those ratings are its worst to date, and that's not the only thing going against it. First, it wrapped up its central Red John mystery earlier this season (unsatisfyingly so, from what I read). Plus, at least two main cast members are done (Owain Yeoman and Amanda Righetti, whose last episode as Rigsby and Van Pelt is Sunday). And it's already well into syndication, so there's no need to eke out another season to reach a deal for that. This could be the end for pseudo psychic Patrick Jane and his crew.
