The Mentalist Review: Let the Games Begin (6x17)

Jane and the team at the FBI ran quite a game on The Mentalist Season 6 Episode 17 when they tried to save a man on death row.

I found it interesting that Agent Fischer was the only naysayer in this investigation while everyone else jumped on board right away. Not that she didn't change her mind when she saw the rest of the team's reaction but it felt like she didn't want to waste two days of her time to possibly save an innocent man's life. IT was a small moment but it was yet another reason why Fischer feels like the weak link on this team.

On the other hand, Abbott continued to surprise me. Considering the confrontational way these two started out back on that island, Abbott has certainly embraced Jane as a member of the team. He respects his opinion and frequently solicits Patrick's advice. It actually feels as though Jane fits in better here at the FBI than he ever did at the CBI but perhaps that's because his sole focus there was always Red John.

I loved how Jane immediately pointed out that the woman with the baby carriage was being used as a distraction just before the bomb went off. The man definitely knows the inner workings of the con.

John De Lancie was perfect as Dr. Edward Feinberg as he went head to head with Patrick Jane. Both men were expert in observing people and it was fun to see someone call Jane on some of his tactics during their first interview at his home.

Unfortunately for Edward, he couldn't quite see the pretty, blonde murderer he was sleeping with. He was completely blindsided to find out that his wife of 11 years had killed Sarah in order to be with him.

I figured early on that the clocks at the CBI were rigged in order to play out their con on the couple. Watching each of the agents go in to have a crack at Edward and his attorney was kind of fun too.

The subplot may have been secondary but was no less interesting. Teresa is now dating Agent Marcus Pike and it's making things awkward between her and Jane.

From the moment she walked out of the cab, Teresa had a problem meeting Jane's eye as he asked her about Pike. She was obviously uncomfortable with his questions.

One of my favorite interactions was between Fischer and Cho as she dug for information on Lisbon's personal life in this The Mentalist quote…

Fischer: You ever wonder what Jane thinks about it?
Cho: Never.
Fischer: Really, why not?
Cho: My brain would explode.

Yet one more reason why I wish we saw more of Kimball Cho.

But it was Jane's reaction to Teresa heading out for a date at the end that really got my attention. He seemed so sad as he told her how beautiful she looked and hoped that Marcus was taking her somewhere nice. A part of him believes that she deserves to be happy but I think there's another part. A part of his heart that won't leave him alone that's more than a bit jealous. I just don't think Jane knows how to deal with that yet. Hopefully he figures it out soon.

Simon Baker Not Hopeful for Season 7?

"The Mentalist" Season 6, Episode 17, titled "Silver Wings of Times," airs Sunday, Apr. 13, on CBS. Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) helps the FBI in a cold case in this week's new episode. Meanwhile, Baker's interview with Ellen DeGeneres seems to hint this is the final season of this Bruno Heller series.

"With only two days before a man is executed, the FBI and Jane attempt to solve a cold case and prove the man is innocent," reads the Mentalist 6x17 episode synopsis on TV.com. In the past episodes, FBI Agent Dennis Abbott (Rockmond Dunbar) has allowed Jane to do what he wants. What is the mentalista game this week?

Pedro Pascal (of "Graceland" and "Homeland") re-appears in this episode as FBI Special Agent Marcus Pike. Incidentally, Pascal also currently portrays Oberyn Martell in the HBO hit series, "Game of Thrones." The Mentalist Season 6, Episode 17 cements the dating status of Pike and Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney).

Meanwhile, CBS has not announced a renewal for The Mentalist. Simon Baker was a guest on Ellen DeGeneres' show two weeks ago. They talked about The Mentalist Season 6 and the possibility that there will be no Season 7. Watch this video on YouTube for more details.

Many, if not all of The Mentalist fans will not be surprised should there be no The Mentalist Season 7. After the death of Red John, the series was never the same. It did not help that Red John turned out be someone so inconsistent with previously given clues.

For Jisbon shippers, the question now is whether Jane and Lisbon will end up together? Watch the sneak preview of this week's new episode. Spoiler alert, though, Lisbon and Pike will continue to date for a couple more episodes.

The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller is currently working on "Gotham," a DC Comics universe adaptation. This upcoming series will be distributed by Warner Bros. Television.

If there is no The Mentalist Season 7, why did Amanda Righetti and Owain Yeoman (who play Grace Van Pelt and Wayne Rigsby, respectively) have to exit the series? Yeoman on his Twitter page did not elaborate on the reasons, but said he will miss Rigsby.

John De Lancie and Jud Tylor are guest stars on The Mentalist Season 6, Episode 17. The next new episode, "Forest Green," airs on Apr. 20.

Simon Baker’s Jane and jealousy (6x17)

On Sunday night’s “Silver Wings of Time” episode of “The Mentalist,” Jane and Lisbon are going to spend a ton of time together. In turn, this means that Jane is going to have a ton of time to start to get jealous over the fact that there is a new man in his partner’s life.

So is Jane finally going to start to play the jealous card? Maybe … but right now, he’s more into the “I don’t want to admit that I’m jealous” phase. Just look at his expression below when he listens to a conversation between Lisbon and Marcus Pike over some sort of plan they have coming up in the next few days. Pike’s not even there, and Jane is already acting like someone has come and taken away his birthday present five minutes after he received it.

This is one of the strongest signs yet from Simon Baker’s character that maybe the show is finally heading in that direction, which is good in that “The Mentalist” has never been a show without a goal. For six years, that goal was taking out Red John once and for all; lately, the only long-form story we’ve had is the one that led to Van Pelt and Rigsby getting back to their new life after former members of the CBI were being targeted. A romance is always an effective long-term storyline, especially when you’ve waited for it as long as we have here.

While the show’s future remains in doubt, let’s say this: If the show does wrap things up on CBS this year, they need to at least give some sort of inkling that Jane’s life is heading in a hopeful direction (hopefully with Lisbon). Otherwise, there was no reason to continue the story after Red John had been killed.

Hmm, What (or Who) Made Lisbon Late to a Crime Scene…? (Sneak Peek #2, 6x17 "Silver Wings Of Time")

Teresa Lisbon is atypically late for a very important date… with a crime scene, on this Sunday’s The Mentalist (CBS, 10/9c) — the question is why?

Might it have to do with her first “pancakes” date with new acquaintance Marcus Pike?

If you’re curious, rest assured that so is Lisbon’s partner in crimefighting — as seen in this exclusive clip from the episode, in which Jane takes up the cause of a death row inmate who has two days to prove his innocence. John De Lancie (Star Trek: TNG) guest-stars as Jane’s latest foil.

Two new sneak peeks for "Silver Wings of Time" won't tell viewers anything about the case of the week, but they will help inform Lisbon (Robin Tunney) and Jane's (Simon Baker) tenuous friendship in the wake of Lisbon's date with Agent Marcus Pike (Pedro Pascal).

Picking up the morning after "Violets," Lisbon will drop by this week's crime scene in a taxi and Jane will be quick to realize why, even if Lisbon claims the cab is only because her car broke down. Meanwhile, the former CBI agent will be keeping her voice low as she sets up another date with the art squad member with Jane standing nearby

No pressure, Jane and Lisbon. No pressure at all.

On The Mentalist Season 6 Episode 17 this Sunday, these two favorites - along with others in the FBI - are tasked with proving a man on death row is actually innocent of murder.

But with only two days until his scheduled execution, can they find the real guilty party before it's too late?

John De Lancie guest stars on the installment as Edward Feinberg, the husband of the murder victim... who isn't happy that Patrick Jane is reopening this case.

Check out these photos from "Silver Wings of Time" and prepare for what looks to be an especially intense hour:

Matt's Inside Line: The Mentalist

Shall I dare ask for a Mentalist scoop? –Sal
You shall! In this Sunday’s episode, Jane and the FBI scramble to prove a death row inmate’s innocence, thus pitting Jane against no less than Star Trek: TNG‘s god-like Q . “[Guest star] John De Lancie plays a man whose wife’s killer is about to be executed, and he and Jane square off over that,” exec producer Tom Szentgyorgyi previews. “John gives a spectacular performance, and was a great sparring partner for [Simon] Baker.”

Please! Do you have anything for Mentalist fans on Jane’s reaction to Lisbon’s new boyfriend? –Yara
While I had Szentgyorgyi on the phone to preview May sweeps/the season finale, I was sure to inquire what Jane was thinking as he sat alone on the sofa, after seeing Teresa run off for late-night pancakes with her new paramour, Pike. “I think Jane was feeling curiously like a third wheel – something he doesn’t feel very often – and wondering why he felt that way,” the EP answered. “Pike is with us through the end of the season, and he will become a increasingly important figure in Lisbon’s life, so Jane is wondering what he’s feeling, because he’s been the most important man in Lisbon’s life — and suddenly he might not be.”

Patrick Jane and a battle of wits (6x17)

For most of the series’ run so far, “The Mentalist” has not shied away from variety. We’ve seen Patrick Jane do everything from car chases to undercover missions to deadly shootings, and for at least part of the new episode Sunday (the show’s first installment in two weeks thanks to the Academy of Country Music Awards), most of the story is going to revolve around a heck of an intense interrogation.

In theory, this is the sort of thing that you would think that Patrick would be very good at. He has long been thought of as the smartest guy in the room, and this will be an opportunity to prove it. The problem that makes this interesting is that typically, Jane’s strength comes from being able to tackle issues that are completely in his control. He is the master of his own universe.

Unfortunately, Jane has pretty much no control in this case. Instead, he has to deal with the fact that there is someone potentially set to die for crimes that they may or may not have committed, and he has to race to figure out if he can clear their name. This is why the title for this hour is “Silver Wings of Time” … and we have a feeling that this will just keep ticking away for a little while longer.

Given that there are five episodes of “The Mentalist” moving forward beyond this one, we don’t necessarily expect something that breaks the mold that much. We just hope for entertainment.

See Jane, Lisbon in ‘Silver Wings of Time’ (6x17 promotional photo)

Sunday night’s new episode of “The Mentalist” is entitled “Silver Wings of Time,” and the word “time” in here is very significant when you think about what the story is. At the center of it is a death-row inmate struggling to prove his innocence, and a case that will once again test Jane and Lisbon and push them to at least some of their limits.

Also, they’ll be spending some time together! The first photo above from this episode shows the two of them seemingly enjoying each other’s company, which is going to be very important for Jane given what we know about Lisbon’s current romantic situation now. At the end of this past episode, we saw her seemingly accept a date from Agent Pike (Pedro Pascal). If Jane wants to make a move and actually have some sort of romantic future with her, he may have to move quickly.

Another reason that he may need to make a move on Lisbon now? Remember that the future of the show is in jeopardy. There is no word yet on a season 7 renewal, and at the time that CBS makes up their mind on the show’s future, production will most likely be long over. Producers therefore have to make the decision as to if they’re willing to risk a cancellation before making a move with these two … if they want to make a move with them, that is.

There are a few more episodes of “The Mentalist” ahead, and we’ll have some more news on what lies ahead soon enough.

The 'Silver Wings Of Time' Starts Ticking for Patrick Jane (6x16, 6x17)

After setting traps for the art thieves, Patrick Jane is ready to take up another task in the The Mentalist Season 6, Episode 17 'Silver Wings of Time'.

In the last episode 'Violet,' Jane and his colleagues plan a sting operation to nab a notorious group of art thieves. But at the end, things turn ugly and the squad members are seen risking their lives while dealing with the dangerous group.

Meanwhile, beautiful Teresa Lisbon is seen flirting with the new FBI agent Marcus from the art squad (a bit of heart-ache for Jane and Lisbon fans).

However, fans must have enjoyed the cute moment when a radiant Lisbon in her red cute pajamas come downstairs to wrap a blanket on Jane.

During the mission, the 'no formality guy' Marcus asks Lisbon for a romantic date.

Meanwhile, it's time for Jane to shake up and come out from his dark past or soon he might let go the love of his life, Lisbon, whom he cares for a lot.

Moving over, there is some exciting journey ahead for Jane, who was assigned by the FBI to solve a case in order to save a man from execution.

In an official spoiler synopsis released by CBS, Patrick Jane will have only two days to save an innocent man who is on death row in the episode 'Silver Wings Of Time', entertainment news website ontheflix.com reported.

Jane's clock-ticking voyage through the next 48 hours for saving the death row inmate by uncovering the dark secrets behind the gruesome crime seems to be a thrilling package of entertainment for The Mentalist fans.

Will Jane be able to solve the case by running against time and can he offer the silver wings of freedom to the soon-to-be executed man?

Viewers can also expect a little flirty drama between Lisbon and Marcus in the upcoming episode.

The Season 6, Episode 17 will be directed by James Hayman and the writers are Tom Szentgyorgyi and Rebecca Cutter. Shannon McClung (Agent Collins), Jud Tylor (Mae Feinberg), John De Lancie (Edward Feinberg) and Oscar Torre (Luis Cruz) will be the guest stars for the same.

The Mentalist Season 6, 'Silver Wings Of Time' will be aired on Sunday 9 pm on 13 April on CBS.

A look at ‘Silver Wings of Time’ (6x17, preview)

When is “The Mentalist” returning to TV? After starting to get used to having new episodes every Sunday, you better be willing to wait again. The only good news here is that this time around, you are waiting for only one week.

When the show returns on April 17 with “Silver Wings of Time,” it will be telling a story that certainly has the makings of an emotional one. It is not an original idea at all to touch on a death-row inmate and the attempts of many to clear their name, but given that “The Mentalist” tends to give a twist for every story they present, you can most-likely expect the same thing here.

Not much is available on the inner details of this episode, but we can at least give you the short synopsis:

“Jane and the FBI take up the cause of a death row inmate who has two days to prove his innocence before his sentence is carried out.”

It is interesting to note that Pedro Pascal (Agent Pike) is not mentioned in the press release for this episode despite making his first appearance tonight and also his first attempt at romancing Lisbon. It’s possible that he could still appear (there’s no binding requirement for networks to disclose their recurring and guest cast), and they just didn’t want to give the outcome of “Violets” away. Regardless, we know that he has multiple appearances this season, so don’t expect that story to be over even if he is a no-show here.

Behind-the-Scenes Look of New Episode Being Filmed, Jane to Deal With Austin Bombing (6x17)

The Mentalist is currently on a long broadcast hiatus with four episodes filmed and ready.

The makers are hard at work getting episode 17 together which will reportedly have the newly formed FBI team dealing with the Austin bomb squad.

Penned by Tom Szentgyorgyi (My Blue Heaven) and Rebecca Cutter (Red Listed), the James Hayman (Golden Hammer) directed episode will place the Dennis Abbott's (Rockmond Dunbar) FBI team in what appears to be downtown Austin, according to behind-the-scenes photos from SCV TV, reports Enstars.

According to the on-set pictures, it seems that Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) amidst shattered glass, cracked benches and a broken sign will be busy trying to deal with an explosion at the Austin Metro's Warwick St. bus stop (shot in Valencia, California).

This new episode is titled Silver Wings of Time and will air after the show's key plot points are addressed, which include: Disclosing who is keeping tabs on old CBI agents, the departure of Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yeoman) and Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti) during White as the Driven Snow, and showing Teresa Lisbon's (Robin Tunney) new beau in Violets.

The previously filmed episodes yet to air are titled: Black Helicopters, Grey Water, White as the Driven Snow, and Violets.

The Mentalist will return with new episodes on 9 March. The show airs Sundays at 9 pm ET on CBS.
