The bad news continues for some shows that are firmly on the bubble,
and while you expect ratings to teeter down a little bit in the spring
months (there’s actually an option for people to go outside), you
traditionally hope that the damage is not so bad that it actually keeps
you from coming back.
At this point in the spring, we’re not really going to waste much
time discussing the shows that are officially coming back for another
season. This is more about the ones that really need the help in any way
possible.
“The Mentalist” -
With a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is poor even if the
show continues to post nearly nine million viewers, things are not
looking good for the show on CBS. Most of the network’s other dramas
(save for “Intelligence”) have already been renewed for another season,
and the network is losing hours for the fall. We still hope that Patrick
Jane will return, but it may not be on its original network.
“Revenge” -
Even though “Revenge” didn’t fare any better with a 1.2 last night, the
odds are better for it to return for a number of reasons. For one, ABC
Studios owns the show, so there’s an incentive to keep airing it. Also,
one more season gets it to syndication, and they can bill it as the
final season to drum up more excitement for Emily’s final showdown.
“Resurrection” -
ABC made a mistake giving the show a week off, since its 1.9 rating
marks a new series low. We still feel decent about its renewal
prospects, mostly thanks to the numbers it pulled early on, and that it
is only an eight-episode series. That is a perfect length to be some
sort of fill in for shows that are canceled in the fall or spring.
