Are Jane and Lisbon going to be together? What does that kiss at the end of “Blue Bird” mean for their job? We know that these are just two questions that “The Mentalist” has set up for itself going into the seventh season.
Even though the show doesn’t have a premiere date just yet, we can at least still confirm one thing: The writers are already back at work. Writer / producer Jordan Harper recently confirmed on Twitter that this part of the process has begun. So what does this potentially mean for the rest of production? We imagine that the show is going to try and have some sort of normal schedule, since it’s better to just get the episodes filmed in advance then try to work around whenever CBS decides to put them on the air. We imagine that this is going to come right around midseason, since that gives the show the opportunity to air 13 episodes in a row without taking too many weeks off in between. Any other way that you do that runs the risk of long, annoying hiatuses.
Obviously, the Jane / Lisbon dynamic is something that has the interest of almost everyone piqued, but we still feel like there is much more to tell beyond that. For example, why not introduce a new villain, or tell a longer story? With only 13 episodes this season, there is an opportunity to be perhaps a little less procedural than you have been in the past.
Of course, we will provide more news and updates on the future of “The Mentalist” as soon as they are available.
