6x13 "Black Helicopters": Jane Takes a Road Trip

When "The Mentalist" returns from hiatus, viewers will get to see Jane take a trip in his Airstream.

Viewers will get to see the Airstream in the first episode back when Jane (Simon Baker) goes on a mini road trip related to the week's case. One of the women from the law enforcement team will also ride along with him.


TVLine reports that Pedro Pascal, who has also appeared on "Red Window," will play an FBI Special Agent and Lisbon's (Robin Tunney) new love interest. Pascal also has an upcoming arc on HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones" as Oberyn Martell.

He will play Special Agent Marcus Pike, who debuts in Episode 16. His character is described as "a charming man with integrity, a blue collar cop with FBI smarts." He will be instantly drawn to Lisbon when he helps Lisbon and Jane track a band of art thieves. He will be around for at least five episodes.

On the last episode of the series prior to the hiatus, the team investigated the suspicious death of a high-tech cartographer.

In "The Golden Hammer," the FBI began investigating the death of Charles Whitaker, a computer engineer who specialized in mapmaking in Houston, Texas. He apparently died from heart failure due to an overdose of illegal drugs. However, Charles had no drug history, and did not have any drugs in his house.

Jane, Lisbon and Fisher (Emily Swallow) meet Charles' brother at Charles' apartment, and Jane finds a newspaper that has some letters curiously circled. Meanwhile, Lisbon and Fisher check out Charles' company, and Lisbon gets a call from Osvaldo Ardiles (David Norona), who used to work for the D.A.'s office in Sacramento and was invovled in the CBI's investigations. He asks her out to dinner to discuss business.

After speaking to people at Charles' company, Lisbon and Fisher begin to think that Charles was worried that classified data had been stolen from inside the company. Jane decides that there is a coded message hidden in the newspaper, but he can't yet figure it out. Jane begins to think that Charles found a spy in his company.

Jane finds out that Charles found the newspaper in a nearby park, so he decides to go the park the next day. He leaves the paper on a bench to see who will pick it up. A man comes to the park and takes the paper. The FBI later finds out that the person is buying secret data from inside the company Charles worked for. However, Jane does not believe that the man or the man's client killed Charles.

Lisbon then meets Ardiles at dinner, and he tells her that he has the feeling that his phone has been hacked and someone is spying on him. He also has the feeling that somebody is following him.

Later, the FBI creates a setup to entrap the killer. They arrest Charles' brother to make the killer believe that he or she is safe to sell more secret data.

Jane, Lisbon and Cho (Tim Kang) wait for the data seller to show up. Avery Schultz, the CEO's secretary, finally shows. The team arrests her, and she confesses, saying she killed Charles because he found out what she was doing inside the company.

Meanwhile, Rigsby (Owain Yeoman) and Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti), who now work in digital security, are trying to find out who bugged Ardiles' phone. They locate Ardiles via his cellphone, and go to the location. But when they get there, they find that he's dead.

Van Pelt then searches on Ardiles' phone, and finds that there are 12 encrypted files with 12 names of people who used to work for the CBI, including Jane, Lisbon, Cho, Rigsby and Van Pelt. It turns out the entire former CBI team has been bugged.

The next episode, "Black Helicopters," will air on March 9 at 10 p.m. EST on CBS.

6x13: Is Patrick Jane and others again in grave danger?

"The Mentalist" Season 6, Episode 13, titled "Black Helicopters," airs several weeks away on CBS. This upsets many fans, who saw quite a shocking cliffhanger a week ago - the "ending" for one of the original cast. Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) is in grave danger. He joins Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) and several other characters in what seems to be a hit list. The Blake Association vengeance could be in motion.


Spoiler alert: This feature recaps The Mentalist 6x12. Owain Yeoman, who plays Wayne Rigsby also dishes a major spoiler. Read at your own risk.

In The Mentalist Season 6, Episode 12 ("The Golden Hammer"), a former Red John suspect - as far as some fans are concerned - has resurfaced. Osvaldo "Oscar" Ardiles (David Norona) seeks Lisbon's help. She believes he needs the investigative services of Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti) and her hubby Rigsby.

But Ardiles gets murdered before anyone could help him. Rigsby sees his lifeless (and possibly tortured) body, but he is not armed in case danger is still lurking in the dark, dingy room. Cut to credits. Fans thought The Mentalist Season 6, Episode 13, Black Helicopters should deliver the answer on whether or not Rigsby lives to see his wife again.


"Morning LA! Beautiful day for a morning bike ride. A nice way to start the first day of my last ever Mentalist ep!" Owain Yeoman shouted out to fans on Twitter over a week ago - on the scheduled airing of The Mentalist 6x12 on CBS. It is not clear whether Yeoman was referring to filming or last week's episode itself.

Whoever killed Ardiles could be in the same room as Rigsby in the 6x12 cliffhanger. Perhaps Amanda Righetti would have one more episode. It will probably be established that the Blake Association has an active crosshair on several former CBI personnel, including Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon.

Will FBI Special Agents Kim Fischer (Emily Swallow) and Dennis Abbott (Rockmond Dunbar) protect the Jisbon couple? What happens to Van Pelt? The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller has previously admitted he did not know how he'd wrap up the Red John arc. Fans could only hope that the manner by which he moves forward with "Blake villains" would be satisfactory.

So many questions regarding The Mentalist Season 6. But the crime series is now on hiatus on CBS, along with the legal drama, "The Good Wife" Season 5. The next new Mentalist episode will air on March 9.

Avid U.S. viewers who missed The Mentalist Season 6, Episode 12 should go to CBS.com for their mentalista fix. The wait for the next episode will be a bit longer than usual (again).

Who do you think is targeting the former CBI team?

Robin: I'm hoping it's a new big bad. But it's probably the remnants of the Blake Association, covering their tracks by killing the investigating officers, or exacting revenge for the demise of their leader. Who I hope is still dead.

@Nerwen_Aldarion: Blake Association and/or someone with ties to Red John. This is a hit list for revenge and it makes sense to go after the ones that took down the whole association. I wanted a new bad guy, I got it! Man am I happy.

Christine: I agree that it is most likely connected to the Blake Association what if it's something else entirely. Maybe Volker exactly his revenge for being sent to prison. I hope it's Blake Association but we'll have to wait and see.


Do you agree with Cho? Is Jane just as crazy as he was in the beginning of the series?

Robin: Just discussed this with my brother, who's a big The Mentalist fan. I don't think he's as crazy (close though), but he's certainly testing the FBI waters. However, my brother thinks he's worse now, flying high on overconfidence and taking pleasure in needling Fischer.

@Nerwen_Aldarion: Yes and No. I agree that he seems less tethered to the earth now that he no longer has revenge but I'm not sure if it is "crazy" or rather the realization that revenge doesn't fill the void of losing his family. He needs something else to live for (Might I suggest Lisbon?)

Christine: I think for Jane this is a whole new world. For the first time in about a decade he's not immersed in the dark side. I don't think he quite knows how to handle that. And Robin, I think your brother has a point. Jane's win over the FBI has made him overconfident and we all know how much trouble Jane's arrogant streak has gotten him into in the past.

Jane is still sporting his scruffy look. What do you think of it?

Robin: Love it. Although, Simon Baker could wear a dirty stained potato sack and I'd still be fawning over him...

@Nerwen_Aldarion: I'm on the fence. On one hand he's damn sexy with the scruff, on the other hand I have this inordinate urge to grab a razor LOL

Christine: So far I'm enjoying the scruffy look. It goes with the new, laid back demeanor and funky shirts. But if he ever man's up and asks Lisbon on a date, I want the razor to come out.

Agent Abbott was back. Do you like the man in charge?

Robin: I like him. He certainly brings a different dynamic to the table. He's all business and he's not yet used to Jane, but respects Jane more than you'd expect a relative newcomer to.

@Nerwen_Aldarion: I liked Abbott for the two seconds he was in the episode. They are going to have to flesh out his character quite a bit more to win us over. I'm surprised how much I like the idea that Lisbon isn't in charge anymore.

Christine: I like him for two reasons: First, like that it takes the responsibility of the team off of Lisbon and gives her a little more freedom. Second, I like the actor Rockmund Dunbar. As for the character, so far so good but as me again at the end of the season.

Was Jane jealous to hear Lisbon had a date with Osvaldo, or just curious?

Robin: I think there was more curiosity and surprise than jealousy, honestly. Especially after he found out who and what the "date" was about. If he really was jealous, I think he would have crashed the date!

@Nerwen_Aldarion: YES!!!! Curiosity is when you say "Hmm, where are you going?" Jealousy is when you simply cannot believe this is happening and then keep trying to change the subject BACK to get more information. Jane acted like the teenage boy who just found out the best friend he has a crush on was going out with the high school quarterback. It was GREAT!

Christine: There was definitely some jealousy there. It was as though he couldn't quite believe his ears. Plus he made fun of Osvaldo's shoes. Even though he didn't crash the date, he wanted to hear all about it the next day to keep tabs on how serious this supposed date really was.

What was your favorite scene from this Mentalist Season 6 episode?

Robin: The scene with Patrick, Lisbon and THAT HAT was super cute...but my favorite scene was the final one, with Rigsby going into the dark basement without a gun while Grace saw their faces pop up on the screen. I was stressed and riveted; I thought for sure Rigsby was in trouble.

@Nerwin_Aldarion: I have three. Jane being jealous in the car, Jane and Lisbon on the bench (I loved her in the hat and glasses, it was cute) and the final scene with the reveal. It's going to be a long hiatus.

Christine: It was a great episode but my favorite moment was Jane and Lisbon positively flirting on the bench. They were just so cute about it and it's always entertaining to have them bantering back and forth. His comment about the hat made me laugh.

6x12: Golden Hammer - Lip-readers not allowed (preview, sneak peek)

ne of the more interesting things about this “new beginning” for Patrick Jane on “The Mentalist” is mostly just the fish-out-of-water experience that is here for Jane. The CBI was an important organization, but in turn, the FBI is a little bit of its own separate beast. This is an organization with so many more rules and regulations, and not all of them are going to be easy to understand.

Not only that, but this is also an organization that is stuffed full of very intelligent people. That means that not everyone is going to be completely in love with Jane’s skill set, or some of the little games that he plays. The latest example of that? Just take a look at the video below, which features a conversation between Simon Baker’s character and Lisbon, where he is basically just showing off how skilled he really is when it comes to lip-reading. Is Lisbon impressed? That’s not really the point of this season. Instead, what matters is seeing Jane ushered away once they seemingly start to catch on to what he is doing in a classified area.

This scene is proof that the FBI is a many-tiered beast. Patrick may be a part of the group now, and he may also even have his own couch to go along with it. However, that doesn’t mean that his eyes and ears are ready to be privy to some of the biggest cases in the country. Even the other preview that we have, which is all about security clearances, is no guarantee that Jane is where he needs to be just yet.

There is going to be a larger case worth discussing, but we will have more of that in our full review of the episode Sunday night.

News About Cowboys, Rigsby's Son, Van Pelt & A Guest Role For 'Vampire Diaries' Todd Williams

The Mentalist entered a completely new world following the death of Red John, putting fans in a situation where they have very little idea what may be next in the life of Patrick Jane.

Luckily for viewers, new details have emerged about several upcoming episodes. Following this Sunday's showing of "The Golden Hammer," Jane (Simon Baker) and his FBI pals will be faced with new mysteries during "Black Helicopters," "Grey Water," and "White as the Driven Snow."

Although Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yeoman) and Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti) have not played a large role in the post-Red John universe, the married duo will pop up once more in "The Golden Hammer" as they investigate a shocking conspiracy. However, it looks like their work may spill into "Black Helicopters," as indicated by a recent tweet from Yeoman.

"Driving into the scene to hit my mark," Yeoman captioned a picture of a car tire during filming for the season's 13th episode on Dec. 5. "Don't think it gets better than this kids! Result!"

It is also believed that Rigsby and Van Pelt will appear in "White as the Driven Snow," since TV Line announced that The Mentalist was casting 4 to 5-year-old boys to play Rigsby's son Benjamin.

Meanwhile, set photos from Karl Sonnenberg, a technical advisor for the CBS drama, and Emily Swallow (Agent Kim Fischer) reveal that "Black Helicopters" will also involve a cowboy aspect).

Not much is known about "Grey Water," however, other then that it will feature a guest appearance from the Vampire Diaries' Todd Williams .

Patrick Jane's Behavior Concerns Cho, Rigsby & Van Pelt To Return In 'The Golden Hammer' (spoilers, video, 6x12)

The Mentalist's Patrick Jane is up to his old tricks, and that may not be a good thing.

Faux psychic, former CBI consultant, and newest member of the FBI's Austin based team, Jane (Simon Baker) is about to be granted full security access at his new job, despite his continuing shenanigans. As Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney), Agent Fischer (Emily Swallow), and Agent Abbott (Rockmond Dunbar) work on unraveling the cause of a pentagon worker's death in "The Golden Hammer," Agent Cho (Tim Kang) will be expressing his concern about Jane's behavior.

"You're acting like you used to act in the early days, and that makes me nervous," Cho tells his coworker in a new preview. "You were crazy."

The investigator's unconventional behavior won't be the only throwback to the Red John era in next week's episode. They don't feature in the promo, but Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yeoman) and Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti) are slated to reappear, although it doesn't appear they will be working the same cartography related case as Jane and Lisbon.

As revealed in "My Blue Heaven," the married couple restarted their life after the CBI with a new baby and their own digital detective agency. At some point during "The Golden Hammer," the duo will begin to investigate and undisclosed conspiracy. It is unclear whether or not this case will feed into the character's upcoming departure from the series.

Rigsby And Van Pelt Return In 'The Golden Hammer,' Amanda Righetti Unsure How Character Ends (6x12 spoiler)

The Mentalist is currently on a brief midseason hiatus, but when it returns in January, Wayne Rigsby and Grace Van Pelt will make an appearance once more.

Jane (Simon Baker) and Lisbon (Robin Tunney) will return on Jan. 5 with their news post-Red John team in "White Lines," but once the faux psychic puts to bed the murder of several DEA agents and heads off on a date, Rigsby (Owain Yeoman) and Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti) will pop up with their own case in "The Golden Hammer."

As the FBI tries to solve the death of a cartographer who may have uncovered a spy ring before his death, the married couple will be hard on the heels of a conspiracy.

The last time viewers saw the former CBI agents was during "My Blue Heaven." In a very brief clip, Rigsby and Van Pelt quickly explained that, in the two years since the dissolution of the CBI, they had started their own private security company and were town the proud parents of a young baby.

However, the pair is slated to depart the series sometime this season. Now that FBI Agents Dennis Abbott (Rockmond Dunbar) and Kim Fischer (Emily Swallow) have essentially replaced them, the only remaining mystery is to how the duo will exit the show.

"I have not shot the final episode yet, there's a few episodes that I'm not filming, like partway through the season," Righetti told PopSugar at the end of November. "They haven't really decided yet what episode they're going to exit the character or, if they have, they haven't shared it with me...I don't know if they really know to be honest. I think they're still trying to figuring out the best exit strategy for the character."

More details on ‘Homeland’ alum’s appearance (6x12 spoilers)

“The Mentalist” may be off the air right now for the fall, but on January 5, the show returns with some of Patrick Jane’s first adventures now as a full member of the FBI. This is a chance to really see what the “new beginning” is for the show away from some of the serialized plots, which is something that we are both very nervous and very excited about at the same time.

The first episode back is entitled “White Lines,” and you can read more about that at the link here. The focus of this article is instead on “The Golden Hammer,” the episode airing on January 12 that includes everything from map-makers to spies. It also has a fantastic guest star in Navid Negahban, who you otherwise know for playing the ruthless villain Abu Nazir on two seasons of “Homeland.” Just be sure to check out the full synopsis for this episode below:

This certainly sounds like a pretty fun case, but it does not really do much to assuage our concerns that the show is going to become stale and somewhat predictable once it becomes extremely procedural again. The only way for it to really avoid such a fate at this point would be for it to establish another lingering long-term story, which we hope will be the relationship between Jane and Lisbon. We’re just not far enough in the process yet to know for sure that this will happen.
