The seventh and final season of "The Mentalist" may have a fewer number of episodes than previous seasons.
Although US TV network CBS confirmed the renewal of the upcoming season of "The Mentalist," there is a likelihood that the show will not return to its original timeslot on Sunday's primetime. Moreover, there is still the question of how many episodes the show will feature. Carter Matt reported that the show will have 13 episodes next season to tie up the loose ends and bring the whole series to a conclusion.
One of the things being considered is the ratings of the show. Apparently, the show is suffering poor ratings. However, the new plot twists and blossoming relationship of Patrick Jane and Theresa Lisbon will garner more ratings for the show. Moreover, CBS also has a hard time fitting the series in its seven-day schedule. Thus, a fall premiere date is highly unlikely. It seemed that "The Mentalist" ranks low in CBS priority list.
Meanwhile, although CBS has not announced a premiere date yet, the writers of the TV series are already back at work. Writer / producer Jordan Harper recently confirmed via Twitter that the writers are planning the next season.
It is obvious that the revelation of Patrick Jane's feelings toward Theresa Lisbon piqued the most interest of viewers. Many speculated that the next season will delve into the personal and working relationship of the two. Avid viewers can expect changes now that the agents will work together and will they allow their feelings to get on the way? Moreover, questions hang on what will be Theresa's decision about Agent Pike who invited her to live in Washington with him. Who will Theresa choose? "The Mentalist" will offer more than crime drama next season as writers will also explore the emotions of the two main characters.
