The weeks before the broadcast network upfront meetings are typically filled with hopeful stories about doomed shows in their death throes. Most are fueled by the show's producers trying to get some PR juice to help them in their mostly futile quests to keep their shows going.

The many stories about The Mentalist being shopped to other networks should tell you two things. The producers (Warner Brothers) know CBS is going to cancel the show, and they've got some highly paid PR flacks.

Whether The Mentalist appears on another network next season is outside the Cancellation Bear's capability to guess. Warner Brothers did manage to get Southland on corporate sibling TNT after it was canceled by NBC, but events like that are so rare as to be effectively unpredictable by the bear.

While the bear has moved his Friends With Better Lives prediction down to "likely canceled" he admits to not feeling strongly about it. The ratings haven't been terrible, but its scheduling plus its mediocre ratings doesn't signal a return to the bear.

Since the majority of Bad Teacher episodes will air during broadcast "summer" which begins on May 22, the bear's treating it as a summer show, ignored for prediction purposes.

From now through the end of the broadcast season in May, the Renew/Cancel Index values will only be calculated using new episodes airing during 2014.

The Mentalist Round Table: Brown Eyes Girls (6x19)

Lisbon accused Patrick Jane of having ulterior motives for interrupting her date with Marcus Pike... but it turned out what he had found was a human trafficking ring on The Mentalist Season 6 Episode 19.

Below, TV Fanatics Robin Harry and Christine Orlando are joined by The Mentalist fan, Entwife to debate why Lisbon took so long to come clean about her possible move to D.C. and whether or not there is a secret Jisbon shipper on the FBI team...

Will Jane tell Lisbon that he has feelings for her?

Robin: While I'm sure there will be arguments that he has no feelings for her, that end scene was surely not the look of a man who's certain his love is platonic. (Sorry, non-shippers!). However, I don't think he will do anything about it unless some outside situation compels or propels him to do so.

Entwife: Yes, I think he will eventually. At this point in the season "eventually" needs to be very quick. I think he made a camouflaged start in the ending scene where they so flagrantly lied to each other about their feelings about Pike and the DC move. From the promo for next week, he seems to take the next step of saying he hopes she'll stay. And she responds very happily, from my point of view. It needs to move pretty fast from there. But then, of course, we get the grand jury obstacle.

Christine: Lisbon joining the FBI in Austin was one of the top things on Jane's list when he signed his deal. I think his first instinct is to step back and let her be happy but I'm really hoping that something will compel him to tell her how he really feels because I think watching her walk away will break his heart.

Why didn't Lisbon tell Jane sooner about her possible move D.C.?

Robin: She also thought Jane was disrupting her date on false pretense, so I don't think she knows how Jane feels about her relationship. I think she didn't tell him because she was uncertain and afraid of what his reaction would be. Judging by that last scene, she expected him to be upset or contrary.

Entwife: I think she was being a bit cowardly and actually somewhat hostile. She didn't want to face it, apparently intended to let him find out by the grapevine. Very cruel and irresponsible in a friendship, in my opinion. Even her response to Abbott revealed underlying hostility, essentially he's a "psychic," let him figure it out. She knows he's not a psychic. It was a patent lie. Is it what she intended to say to Jane when he found out and probably confronted her with it? Ow. Payback for the times he just up and left her?

Christine: I think she's just as conflicted about her feelings for Jane as he is about her. He's most certainly hurt her in the past and has lied to her frequently. I think she's uncertain what Jane's feelings for her truly are and she's probably afraid to find out one way or another. In other words, it's complicated.

Is Abbott a Lisbon shipper? Why was he encouraging Lisbon to tell Jane?

Robin: I wouldn't brand him a shipper on that one conversation. He's just a man with a normal human sense of decency, who knows that people as close as Lisbon and Jane are tell each other when they're contemplating a life-altering decision. Abbott likes Jane and just didn't want to see him blind-sided.

Entwife: Thank goodness for Abbott! He acted as the moral compass for Lisbon about what she was doing. When she realized it had already got to Abbott, and he was warning her that Jane was about to find out, he was nudging Lisbon to at least be honorable with Jane if she was truly going to leave. Her reaction seemed both fear and pain when she got in that elevator. Perhaps embarrassment, too. I do think Abbott is a kindly, subtle shipper. He might not directly interfere. But he's seen them as a couple from the beginning, his opinion hasn't changed and I think he has a fondness for them and empathy for their troubled times right now.

Christine: Abbott has grown fond of them both and he knows how hard Jane lobbied to get Lisbon to come to Austin to begin with. He could see that Lisbon was in denial and made her face it. I'm not sure if he's a shipper, but he seems to be a good buy who cares about his team.

What was the best Patrick Jane moment of the episode?

Robin: This episode was one of the best Patrick Jane showcases since Red John. The case was interesting, and brought out most of the things that make Patrick a complex and fascinating character. My favorite moment would be his comforting of the dying girl in the bed. That's a side of Patrick we don't get to see very often, and it's beautiful.

Entwife: I want to say the ending scene, so astounding. But Jane had some tremendous moments throughout this episode. I guess I'd have to pick the ride in the Airstream. The expression on his face when Lisbon looked at him with such apprehension. It was pure gold, in my opinion, and something I haven't seen in Jane before. He looked like, what dreadful thing is she trying to keep from telling me? But he kept silent. I don't think he really wanted to know just then. But his looks-- wow! Simon is such an amazing actor and conveys so much without words.

Christine: He had a lot of great moments in this episode. Jane comforting the dying girl, begging for her to live was definitely my favorite. But him getting the crazy drunk to remember exactly where he found her came in as a close second. I love it when Jane works his magic to access memories. He's just so good at it.

Do you think Teresa is in love with Marcus Pike?

Robin: I think she loves being with him, but I don't think she's in love quite yet. I think his dependability and honesty are something she's been missing and craving in her life, but she's far too hesitant about the move for me to think she's in love.

Entwife: No. Absolutely not. She won't even answer Jane's question if things are going well with him. The last scene, Lisbon looks like she almost begging Jane for a rescue, to please speak for her. I think she sees his true feelings, but she needs him to speak. I think Jane caught Lisbon's true feelings, too, made a small movement to go after her and stops himself, undecided if it's the right thing to do. And she looks back at him, twice, as Pike is leading her away. I can't get her attachment to Pike as anything but an escape path completely away from Jane if he won't speak up.

Christine: Marcus Pike is the guy who is good on paper. If she wrote a list of all the things she thinks she wants in a romantic partner, he'd fit every slot. Unfortunately the heart doesn't care what's on that page. Lisbon likes him a lot. He's a good guy and her head is telling her she should love him but that doesn't mean she does or ever will.

What was your favorite scene from this Mentalist Season 6 installment?

Robin: Watching the flurry of emotions go across Jane's face as he realizes Lisbon is serious about Pike and is contemplating leaving. Simon Baker. My goodness. that man is one heck of an actor.

Entwife: The ending scene. Absolutely. Never was so much truth revealed in the pack of lies Jane and Lisbon were telling each other with their mouths. Because everything else about their body language, facial expression, eyes and tone of voice gave the truth away. No doubt for me anymore. Jane and Lisbon will be together by season's end. But I allow a 5% chance for Heller to destroy them out of sheer perversity, for "art." I will never trust him again, for any production.

Christine: I have to make it unanimous. That end scene was priceless. Lisbon looked oddly hopeful and Jane looked about as devastated as I'd ever witnessed as he stumbled over his words and told Teresa he wanted her to be happy. No matter what happens, I think these last few episode will be a bit painful to watch.

Ratings watch: ‘The Mentalist,’ ‘Revenge,’ ‘Resurrection’ see renewal chances dinged

The bad news continues for some shows that are firmly on the bubble, and while you expect ratings to teeter down a little bit in the spring months (there’s actually an option for people to go outside), you traditionally hope that the damage is not so bad that it actually keeps you from coming back.

At this point in the spring, we’re not really going to waste much time discussing the shows that are officially coming back for another season. This is more about the ones that really need the help in any way possible.

The Mentalist” - With a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is poor even if the show continues to post nearly nine million viewers, things are not looking good for the show on CBS. Most of the network’s other dramas (save for “Intelligence”) have already been renewed for another season, and the network is losing hours for the fall. We still hope that Patrick Jane will return, but it may not be on its original network.

Revenge” - Even though “Revenge” didn’t fare any better with a 1.2 last night, the odds are better for it to return for a number of reasons. For one, ABC Studios owns the show, so there’s an incentive to keep airing it. Also, one more season gets it to syndication, and they can bill it as the final season to drum up more excitement for Emily’s final showdown.

Resurrection” - ABC made a mistake giving the show a week off, since its 1.9 rating marks a new series low. We still feel decent about its renewal prospects, mostly thanks to the numbers it pulled early on, and that it is only an eight-episode series. That is a perfect length to be some sort of fill in for shows that are canceled in the fall or spring.

Which Broadcast Net Had Two Shows Record Historic Ratings Lows in Sunday Prime? The Same Net That Won the Night

On a tepid Sunday night for the broadcast networks, the net that won the prime-time ratings battle also saw two of its series sink to all-time low numbers, based on Nielsen overnights for the key 18-49 demo. That network was ABC, which won the demo for the night even with both "Resurrection" and "Revenge" setting new low marks.

TVbytheNumbers.com reports that ABC's "Resurrection" fell 10% from its most recent original episode to an all-time low of 1.9 in viewers 18-49, while "Revenge" slipped 8% to a series-low 1.2 average. But "America's Funniest Home Videos" posted a 23% improvement, registering a 1.6, while "Once Upon a Time" surged 24% from the series low it set a week ago to post a 2.1 as ABC topped its rivals with a 1.7 overall rating for prime time.

CBS and Fox finished in a tie for second place in adults 18-49, but CBS won the night by a comfortable margin in total viewers.

CBS had a series low of its own, with "The Mentalist" falling 14% from a week ago to tie its low mark with a 1.2 average in 18-49. "The Good Wife" equaled the 1.3 it had a week earlier, while "60 Minutes" and "The Amazing Race" both posted improved numbers. "60 Minutes" was up 27% with a 1.4 and "Race" ticked up 12% to a 1.9.

Fox's Sunday lineup had mixed results, with "Bob's Burgers" surging 83% from a week ago to a 1.1 in the 18-49 demo and "American Dad" drifting up 9% from its most recent original to a 1.2, while "The Simpsons" lost 12% from its most recent installment to settle for a 1.5. "Family Guy" held steady with its most recent installment, delivering a 2.1, and "Cosmos" equaled its 1.4 from a week earlier.

NBC was pre-empted in Portland for the NBA playoffs, meaning its numbers may be inflated and are subject to more than the usual adjustments. In preliminary returns, the prime-time lineup was up across the board in the 18-49 demo: "American Dream Builders" rose 40% from its all-time low a week ago to a 0.7 average; "Dateline" surged 38% to a 1.1; "Believe" climbed 9% to a 1.1; and "Crisis" rose 11% to a 1.0.

For prime time overall, ABC led the way in the 18-49 demo with a 1.7 average, followed by Fox and CBS (both with 1.5 averages), NBC (1.0) and Univision (0.8). CBS won total viewers, averaging 9.2 million to lead ABC (6.4 million), NBC (4.3 million), Fox (3.3 million) and Univision (2.2 million).

6x19: "Brown Eyed Girls" (Sneak Peek #3)

Will Pike Leave For DC Alone? Lisbon Contemplates Offer While Taking Down Smugglers

The Mentalist's Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon rarely check their law enforcement reflexes at the door, which turns out to be a lucky break for the victims of a human smuggling ring during "Brown Eyed Girls."

A momentary fleeting encounter with a suspicious stranger will prove to be a moment of serendipity for Lisbon and Jane. Between the faux psychics keen observational skills and FBI agent's cop sense, the pair will stumble upon a human trafficking case and launch an investigation to save a girl's sister.

As the investigation picks up, Jane and Lisbon will play out their own drama in background.

Lisbon is contemplating making a major change in her life, and Jane may be left in the dust. Agent Marcus Pike (Pedro Pascal) is thinking about accepting a job in Washington D.C., but his is unwilling to leave his new girlfriend behind. Solution - ask Lisbon to come with him.

Could Lisbon pack up and move for the third time this season? Fans will have to wait until the "romantic" season finale to see what she ultimately decides.

Lisbon and Jane to Kiss in the Finale?

"The Mentalist" returns to CBS this Sunday with a brand new episode revealing more about Lisbon's ongoing relationship with Agent Pike.

This week's show will follow Lisbon who is debating between moving to Washington, D.C. with her new boyfriend, Pike, or remaining on the FBI team with Jane. As season six winds down, "The Mentalist" fans are hoping for a romantic twist between Lisbon and Jane. Fortunately, viewers may get just what they want.

According to spoilers, the season finale "Blue Bird Inn" sees Jane at last awakened to his romantic feelings for Lisbon, according to Enstarz.com. Moreover, Jane may even propose to Lisbon before Pike has the chance to win her heart.

Furthering beliefs of love budding between Jane and Lisbon, "The Mentalist" creator Bruno Heller recently teased about the season six finale.

"It's a romantic finale," he told TV Guide. "With the death of Red John, there's a sense of tying [things] up and certainly this romantic angle is one of them."

However, other speculations over a "romantic" finale could see a wedding between Lisbon and Agent Pike, portrayed by Pedro Pescal. Nevertheless, Heller explained what Lisbon needs from Pike for now on "The Mentalist."

"In order to fulfill herself-even if she eventually fulfills herself with Jane, which she may or may not do- she has to find other relationships; other perspectives, other people who love her, just to feel fully who she is," he told Entertainment Weekly.

"The Mentalist" airs on CBS Sundays at 10 p.m. EST. The synopsis for "Brown Eyed Girls" is as follows: "Jane unearths a human-smuggling ring after he encounters a curious-looking stranger. Meanwhile, Lisbon ponders moving to Washington, D.C. with Pike."

Agent Lisbon’s new man gives a kiss? Season finale proposal

Fans of “The Mentalist” watched as FBI Agent Teresa Lisbon has finally found her possible suitor on the popular CBS show, but it isn't Patrick Jane as many viewers has visualized. The chance encounter with Agent Pike blossomed into more than just a working relationship and it gets more serious as the season finale gets closer. This “The Mentalist” spoiler offers details about the episode “Brown Eyed Girls” so fans who don’t want to know details should look away now. According to Hollywood Hills on Saturday, an unassuming abandoned house kicks off a drastic case for the FBI.

The chance encounter sets up a very interesting case with Patrick Jane taking the lead on a smuggling ring. A suspicious-looking individual leads Jane and Agent Lisbon to uncover a big human smuggling ring that even their bosses are shocked to see all the people involved. With such a serious injustice to the people being harmed the FBI stops the ring and arrests those folks in charge.

Meanwhile, Agent Lisbon has a tough choice before the season finale. It was Agent Pike who offered a new life for the couple and a romance that could last a lifetime if she moves with him to Washington, D.C. Torn between two worlds and the chance for love, Teresa has to decide carefully her new journey in life as it might not be the best to stick with Patrick Jane. More importantly, a kiss is coming for Agent Lisbon and it might not be from Agent Pike who is trying to sweep her off her feet. Christian Post is reporting on Thursday that the kiss is from her other sleuthing friend and both men might be on one knee to propose.

As the romance does bloom into something bigger, it’s pretty obvious that Patrick is getting jealous of Agent Pike as it was once assumed that he might be Lisbon’s boyfriend. How the three work out the details for a strong conclusion to the story is yet to be known, but knowing Patrick Jane he probably has something up his sleeve to make Agent Lisbon thing twice before leaving the Texas FBI unit.

6x19: "Brown Eyed Girls" (Sneak Peek #2)

"Jane unearths a human-smuggling ring after he encounters a curious-looking stranger. Meanwhile, Lisbon ponders moving to Washington, D.C., with Pike."

Jane, Lisbon, and nostalgia (6x19: "Brown Eyed Girls", sneak peek #1)

Remember the old days of “The Mentalist,” when you watched the CBI take on the case of the week before the Red John investigation really started to get crazy? There is something about the sneak peek below that reminds us of some of the early days of the show. Maybe it is the sight of Jane, Lisbon, and Cho all together, and that they are working on a case that doesn’t appear to have too much to do with necessarily anything long-term.

Even though this is a standalone plot, what this show has nonetheless proven to us time and time again is that it still has a capacity to entertain. This scene features the three aforementioned characters coming up to what may be some sort of refuge … or a prison. This case could actually get very dark before it is over, but don’t expect it to be something that carries over from week to week.

When it comes to that subject for the time being, the large focus seems to be on the Jane / Lisbon relationship and trying to figure out just what is coming next for them. She’s going to have a chance to move to Washington DC, and you can expect that story to drag on for at least a few weeks while she weighs the options … and possibly also see what Jane is going to do about it.

Sadly, we have no more news right now for you on just what the future for “The Mentalist” could be. The show still has not been renewed for another season, and while we reported yesterday that Warner Bros. is shopping the show elsewhere, it’ll be a little while before CBS firmly makes their decision one way or the other.

'The Mentalist' being shopped to other networks

There’s one man whose intentions master psych-detective Patrick Jane can’t quite figure out: CBS chief Les Moonves.

Sources tell EW that studio Warner Bros. is shopping a seventh season of The Mentalist to other networks just in case CBS doesn’t renew the show before its fall schedule presentation to advertisers next month. We’re hearing the studio has spoken to both broadcast and cable networks about picking up the drama, which is being pitched as a series with a creative fresh start due to its recent story reboot. One obvious potential landing place would be TNT, since it airs past seasons of the The Mentalist in syndication.

The Mentalist did a creative shakeup this season by having Jane (Simon Baker) finally confront and kill his longtime nemesis Red John. The story then made a two-year time jump and shifted the setting from Sacramento, Calif. to Austin, Texas. Yet after being relocated around the CBS schedule, eventually ending up on Sunday nights, the crime drama is having its softest season yet in the ratings (down 9 percent from last year to average 11.6 million viewers and a 2.1 among adults 18-49, including DVR playback). That’s better than some dramas that will return next season (such as CBS’ own The Good Wife), but shows get more expensive as they age due to talent deals, so the bar for a network renewal often creeps higher with each passing year.

Creator Bruno Heller tells me the show’s upcoming season finale is being written to potentially serve as a series closer as well as work as a set-up for a seventh season.

“It will be a very pleasing and satisfying series finale if that’s what happens and if not its a very pleasing and satisfying precursor to a new season. Obviously that’s the goal. Killing off Red John … turned out to be a brilliant idea and it loosened everybody up and gave us fresh legs and blue skies.”

‘The Mentalist’ Explores New Network Homes In Case CBS Does Not Renew Series

With The Mentalist‘s future at CBS in serious doubt, I hear the studio behind the veteran drama, Warner Bros TV, has been quietly shopping the series to other networks, garnering some preliminary interest from broadcast and cable. Taking in a 6-year-old high-end drama is not an easy proposition, but WBTV is ready to explore every possible avenue — that’s how important a property The Mentalist is to the studio with its $2 million-plus-per-episode off-network deal at TNT and big international sales including France, where it is the No. 1 scripted series.

In a situation like that, having a sibling network comes in handy. CBS stepped in when NBC cancelled CBS Studios-produced drama Medium after five seasons, keeping the series and its lucrative off-network deal alive for two more years. When NBC was exploring ending Law & Order: Criminal Intent after six seasons, the series, produced by NBCUniversal, instead moved to sibling USA, which already was carrying CI reruns. The Law & Order spinoff ended up going for four more seasons. The Mentalist wouldn’t be a fit for the only WBTV-affiliated broadcast network, the young skewing CW, making cable sibling TNT the best possible option. Like with L&O: CI and USA, TNT already is the off-network home of The Mentalist and has a slate of crime procedurals. However, the net has been pulling away from the genre lately, putting an emphasis on action-adventure fare in the vein of Falling Skies with such shows as the upcoming The Last Ship and Legends, and I hear it might not be interested in picking up The Mentalist originals (though parent Time Warner could conceivably intervene if the larger company’s financial interest is at stake). Among the major broadcast networks, ABC is said to be open to considering a pickup though it is expected to evaluate its own development first. The network has had success with a similar comedic procedural, Castle, and it also has struggled launching dramas at 10 PM for the past couple of seasons.

Robin Tunney Teases 'The Mentalist' Love Triangle: Fans Will Be 'Really Happy' or 'Very Upset' (interview)

"Game of Thrones" heartthrob Pedro Pascal (who plays the Red Viper, Oberyn Martell, on the HBO series) is generating new interest for "The Mentalist" as FBI Special Agent Marcus Pike, quieting fears that the CBS drama wouldn't be able to survive without its seasons-long Red John arc. In fact, last week's episode actually did a little better in the 18-49 demographic than the climactic episode where the killer was revealed.

Pascal, who has already appeared in one episode out of his (as of now) five-episode stint, is throwing a wrench into the smooth-running engine that is the chemistry between Simon Baker's Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon, played by Robin Tunney. The pair's flirting has grown more serious since the dark shadow of Red John has left the show, but fans hoping that they would get together after almost six full seasons may be in for a disappointment.

We talked with Tunney about the direction Lisbon's relationships are headed, what it's like to be screamed at by people in Nicaragua, and the impossible standard of Sandra Bullock's rear end.

You get to do some magic with Jane in Sunday's episode?
There's a little bit of magic in this episode. Basically, with his kind of magic, I'm usually not let in on this stuff. I'm his assistant. Only, I don't get to wear a cute costume. It's OK, actually — I don't think I want to wear tights and a leotard at my age.

You generally don't get to play with Jane when he's doing that sort of thing. Is it a sign of growing intimacy, maybe?
They are growing closer together. We'll have to see what happens with this. I don't know; we're either going to make a lot of people really happy or a lot of people very upset, I'm not sure.

In this episode?
The season in general. Having to wait for him; Lisbon finally gets some action!

She's been waiting almost six full seasons for that!
Basically. Actually, there's a part of me that's always been quite relieved that I didn't have to kiss a man I didn't know or roll around in bed and make pillow talk. Because, as an actor, it's really hard to do. Actors in general are insecure people — that's why we act. It brings out the worst in your insecurity. Like, is the person really feeling this? Do they hate me? Was that OK? It's too much! It's really stressful.

But I do like the idea of the character at least addressing that she did have a life and wasn't a virgin. Actually, I had a one-night stand in [Season] 3 with a billionaire [Walter Mashburn played by Currie Graham, in the episode "Red Hot"], which is really odd. It's like, all of a sudden, Lisbon is a gold digger. One-night stand, in and out.

But yeah, it's been exciting. [Pike's] a really nice guy. In this episode, there's a really big movement in the relationship and she's forced to make a decision. But at the same time, I think I still have feelings for Jane. I think it's difficult because another guy is acting on it. A girl can only wait so long. At a certain point, you just got to see what's out there. And I gotta say, Pedro Pascal is a handsome Latin lover.

How has it been working with Pedro?
He's a great guy. I've really enjoyed it. He's obviously very used to being sexy because he's had to be sexy on "Game of Thrones." As an actor, it's hard for people to come in. It's the sixth year, and Simon and I are so close. On the level of the reality of the characters, too; Simon and I finish each other's sentences. We know each other so well and all of sudden, there's this person who's new. But he's a lovely guy and I really enjoy him. So, it's interesting. I have to be careful — I can't be too nice to him in front of Simon or he'll get jealous.

Well, Bruno [Heller, the show's creator] has said that even if Jane and Lisbon end up together, she still needs to have other relationships just to have some perspective.
It seems sort of adult. To be totally frank, I felt quite sorry for Lisbon when Jane was away and where the writers took that. I was alone and pining for him. And demoted to a job in a small town. I felt sad that the character had been punished for being so loyal to him. So I'm glad they've given her some other options.

Did you push for that?
That's how Bruno saw it. I obviously wanted her to have a bit more dignified of an ending. But it wasn't an ending, so I guess that's OK. And she did wait long enough. You know what I mean? So it shows that and the idea that I'm moving on now, it makes it legitimate. Because, let's be honest with each other: The audience allegiance is with Patrick Jane. They want him to get what he wants; they've known him for six years. I think if I'd immediately moved off and been with another guy, they would have felt like it was a betrayal to Jane in a way. But I think waiting that long and earning it, it's OK. They don't have to hate Lisbon for hurting Jane, for abandoning him. I don't know, it's tricky territory.

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live baseball game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

New details on Lisbon’s big decision

For six seasons of “The Mentalist,” one of the things that Patrick Jane has always been able to hang his hat on is the ability to control almost any situation. He’s incredibly smart, charming, and understands how to properly manipulate a situation to be in his favor.

Unfortunately for him, he is now running into a situation with Lisbon where he simply cannot do that. While he could do a few things to try to convince her to stay with him rather than go with Agent Pike (Pedro Pascal) to DC, he cannot force her to do anything. He has to actually win her over to his side, which has the potential to be sweet and romantic and everything that makes “Mentalist” fans just up and down on their couches like they are Tom Cruise during an episode of “Oprah.” (Cheers to dated references!)

Will this moment happen in the penultimate episode of the season entitled “Black Hearts”? It’s a little early to tell, since we know that most of the good stuff is being saved for the finale. Personally, we read the synopsis below much in the way that we read the ones for a number of other episodes that we’ve seen lately:

“With time running out to save the victims of a kidnapping ring before they are transported overseas, Jane and Lisbon zero in on the criminal enterprise’s mastermind. Meanwhile, Lisbon decides if she will move to D.C. with Agent Pike.”

No offense to the writers, but they are going to have a hard time hooking us with any procedural plot right now thanks to the hooks being put in on this Jane / Lisbon storyline. Now that it is clear they are heading in this direction, now is the time when closure is very much wanted. Will we get it? Given the show’s unstable future, we’re sure that we’ll at least get something. Nobody wants to end the season or perhaps the series with a revolt.

The Mentalist Round Table: "Forest Green"

It didn't take much for Patrick Jane to take down a murderer at a gentleman's social club - but he may need more than magic tricks to get Lisbon to stay.

Below, TV Fanatics Robin Harry and Christine Orlando are joined by The Mentalist fan "Feint" to share their thoughts on Marcus Pike and whether they think Lisbon will make the jump to D.C. after The Mentalist Season 6 Episode 18...

Should Teresa make the move to D.C. with Marcus Pike?
Robin:  Every logical bone in my body screams no. For one, she just met him. Sweeping romantic gestures aside, that would just be a little nuts, and Teresa Lisbon is too grounded for that. Two, she just left another job to work for the FBI in Texas with Jane. Uprooting again would be a bit much.
Feint: I don't quite see why she shouldn't. Moving's not that much of a problem. She'd probably get to keep her job in the FBI and she could still talk to Jane via letters, Facebook or whatever. Obviously the show(or just the fans) wants Lisbon to love Jane and they should end up together, so this is a great way to make that all happen. So unexpected!
Christine: I can see why she'd consider it. It feels like she hasn't had a romantic relationship in a while and she likes Marcus a lot, but it's quite the leap. It's not very Lisbon-like but perhaps she's looking to shake things up. This could be just the thing.

Do you think Patrick will try to stop Teresa if she does consider leaving Austin.
Robin: I don't think he will. Patrick cares about Teresa's happiness, so if he thought for a second that she would be happy and content in D.C. with Pike, he would let her go.
Feint: I don't believe he would. Teresa didn't stop him from killing Red John, she didn't stop him from leaving the country after committing the murder. Patrick wants Teresa to be happy so I think he will let her go so she can attempt to be happy. Relationships in The Mentalist never go wrong. Never.
Christine: I hope he does but it would be a bit out of character for him. I'm really not sure what would push Jane over the edge and make him not only want a romantic relationship with Teresa but also act on those feelings. I just hope something gets him to that point, and quick.

What do you think of Marcus Pike?
Robin: I really like him. He's smart, open and straightforward, and I think Lisbon needs that. For her, Pike's a refreshing change from Jane, whose very nature leads him to be cryptic, secretive and misinformative.
Feint: I don't quite like Marcus, to be honest. He really reminds me of Craig O'laughlin from The Mentalist Season 3 although I don't believe he's involved in anything too serious. Maybe it's to do with him dating Lisbon. That's not really something we want to see, so I feel I have the right to be just a tiny bit disgusted.
Christine: I think he's generally a good guy and that Teresa appreciates his honest approach and that he's very open about how much he likes her. He just seems a bit bland to me. I feel as though eventually, Lisbon would end up being bored.

Who was the most arrogant of the club members, guest, or employees?
Robin: All of the above. They all had pretty awful personalities.
Feint:  Oh, they were all so arrogant. It's difficult to pick just one name but I suppose the dude blackmailing the hook...escort's murderer was pretty bad.
Christine: My favorite was Russell. I especially liked that Cho called him out on being such a talented liar that he managed to evade answering even Patrick Jane's questions.

What was your favorite scene?
Robin:  I really enjoyed Patrick's magic tricks. It's been a while since we've gotten to see Jane do those kinds of tricks, and he and Lisbon were seriously hamming it up during the show. That was a lot of fun. How on earth did he set that dollar bill on fire?!?
Feint:  I have to admit it wasn't a great episode and few scenes were memorable at all. The ones I liked were Jane telling the cellphone guy(I can't remember the names, oh man!) he got away with murder and, of course, Jane's magic tricks when convincing Mr. Whatshisface he should totally let him entertain the club members. I'd pick the first one just because I felt it could be foreshadowing and they're actually bringing back the Red John case.
Christine: For me, it was right in the beginning when Lisbon gets to work and Jane almost looks uncomfortable. He wants to know what's going on between her and Pike, he wants her to be happy but he almost looked nervous about asking. That's not like Patrick Jane. He is almost always confident and I liked the contrast to what we normally see.

Simon Baker’s surprise in ‘Brown Eyed Girls’

“The Mentalist” is slowly reeling us in to getting answers when it comes to Jane and Lisbon’s relationship, and next week’s “Brown Eyed Girls” may be another step on that journey. However, at the same time it looks as though the show is going to continue taking a long route to get there.

For example, next week looks to actually have one of the most emotional cases we’ve seen in some time courtesy of a smuggling ring, and Jane could struggle to figure out its origins and how to stop it. Not only that, but cases of this horrific nature tend to bring out emotions in everyone, whether you are talking about Lisbon, Fisher, or Abbott. You can take a look at the full synopsis for the episode below:

“A chance encounter with a suspicious-looking individual leads Jane and Lisbon to uncover a vast human smuggling ring. Meanwhile, Lisbon remains tempted by Pike’s offer to move to D.C. with him.”

So unfortunately, this synopsis does not really succeed in saying anything other than some stuff that you already knew either based on the promo below, or the events that actually transpired in the episode tonight. Lisbon hasn’t seemed to make her mind yet regarding what Pike offered, and the question you really have to ponder right now is simple: Is moving to DC to be with this man something that is really that she wants to do, or is she waiting for Jane to make a move? Hopefully, we’ll get a big reveal soon by her that this is happening, and he will then take advantage of the opportunity to convince her to stay.

Mega Buzz: a Mentalist Proposal

Since The Mentalist hasn't been renewed yet, will the writers finally get Jane and Lisbon together in case the show's canceled? — Jackie

Funny you should ask, Jackie. "It's a romantic finale rather than a [suspenseful] finale," creator Bruno Heller says. But that might not mean exactly what you think. In fact, after a quick courtship, Agent Pike will propose to Lisbon. Will Jane give the couple his blessing, or will he decide to confront his unresolved feelings for Lisbon? Either way, Heller promises closure. "With the death of Red John, there's a sense of tying [things] up and certainly this romantic angle is one of them," he says.

Simon Baker’s country-club fun (6x18 "Forest Green", synopsis)

Next week’s new episode of “The Mentalist” is entitled “Forest Green”, and based on what we’ve seen from the promo below and read from the synopsis, this is going to be more of an hour about people who have a very blue-sky philosophy on things. Patrick Jane is visiting a country club!

Just the idea of seeing Simon Baker’s character interacting with the 1% should be entertaining, since these are people who are very accustomed to a certain way of doing things. As for Jane, he always follows his own beaten path.

Now, we turn to the aforementioned synopsis:

“When a woman is found murdered near a remote men’s social club, Jane must find a way to insinuate himself into the insular group to find the killer.”

It’s rather sad in a way that there is not too much more to discuss when it comes to the show right now, but that is just the way that “The Mentalist” operates from time to time. Another thing to keep in close consideration right now is that the show doesn’t want to give away any of its major shockers.

For those of you (like us) who do root for Jane and Lisbon, you do have to have some hope now that the pairing may actually be happening on the show now! Remember that “goodnight, Teresa” line? That has to be a step in the right direction. We just hope that the writers made the move to give us an additional moment before the end of the story, since we are otherwise going to be completely nuts if that doesn’t happen and we’re just left with what we have now.

The Mentalist Review: Let the Games Begin (6x17)

Jane and the team at the FBI ran quite a game on The Mentalist Season 6 Episode 17 when they tried to save a man on death row.

I found it interesting that Agent Fischer was the only naysayer in this investigation while everyone else jumped on board right away. Not that she didn't change her mind when she saw the rest of the team's reaction but it felt like she didn't want to waste two days of her time to possibly save an innocent man's life. IT was a small moment but it was yet another reason why Fischer feels like the weak link on this team.

On the other hand, Abbott continued to surprise me. Considering the confrontational way these two started out back on that island, Abbott has certainly embraced Jane as a member of the team. He respects his opinion and frequently solicits Patrick's advice. It actually feels as though Jane fits in better here at the FBI than he ever did at the CBI but perhaps that's because his sole focus there was always Red John.

I loved how Jane immediately pointed out that the woman with the baby carriage was being used as a distraction just before the bomb went off. The man definitely knows the inner workings of the con.

John De Lancie was perfect as Dr. Edward Feinberg as he went head to head with Patrick Jane. Both men were expert in observing people and it was fun to see someone call Jane on some of his tactics during their first interview at his home.

Unfortunately for Edward, he couldn't quite see the pretty, blonde murderer he was sleeping with. He was completely blindsided to find out that his wife of 11 years had killed Sarah in order to be with him.

I figured early on that the clocks at the CBI were rigged in order to play out their con on the couple. Watching each of the agents go in to have a crack at Edward and his attorney was kind of fun too.

The subplot may have been secondary but was no less interesting. Teresa is now dating Agent Marcus Pike and it's making things awkward between her and Jane.

From the moment she walked out of the cab, Teresa had a problem meeting Jane's eye as he asked her about Pike. She was obviously uncomfortable with his questions.

One of my favorite interactions was between Fischer and Cho as she dug for information on Lisbon's personal life in this The Mentalist quote…

Fischer: You ever wonder what Jane thinks about it?
Cho: Never.
Fischer: Really, why not?
Cho: My brain would explode.

Yet one more reason why I wish we saw more of Kimball Cho.

But it was Jane's reaction to Teresa heading out for a date at the end that really got my attention. He seemed so sad as he told her how beautiful she looked and hoped that Marcus was taking her somewhere nice. A part of him believes that she deserves to be happy but I think there's another part. A part of his heart that won't leave him alone that's more than a bit jealous. I just don't think Jane knows how to deal with that yet. Hopefully he figures it out soon.

Simon Baker Not Hopeful for Season 7?

"The Mentalist" Season 6, Episode 17, titled "Silver Wings of Times," airs Sunday, Apr. 13, on CBS. Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) helps the FBI in a cold case in this week's new episode. Meanwhile, Baker's interview with Ellen DeGeneres seems to hint this is the final season of this Bruno Heller series.

"With only two days before a man is executed, the FBI and Jane attempt to solve a cold case and prove the man is innocent," reads the Mentalist 6x17 episode synopsis on TV.com. In the past episodes, FBI Agent Dennis Abbott (Rockmond Dunbar) has allowed Jane to do what he wants. What is the mentalista game this week?

Pedro Pascal (of "Graceland" and "Homeland") re-appears in this episode as FBI Special Agent Marcus Pike. Incidentally, Pascal also currently portrays Oberyn Martell in the HBO hit series, "Game of Thrones." The Mentalist Season 6, Episode 17 cements the dating status of Pike and Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney).

Meanwhile, CBS has not announced a renewal for The Mentalist. Simon Baker was a guest on Ellen DeGeneres' show two weeks ago. They talked about The Mentalist Season 6 and the possibility that there will be no Season 7. Watch this video on YouTube for more details.

Many, if not all of The Mentalist fans will not be surprised should there be no The Mentalist Season 7. After the death of Red John, the series was never the same. It did not help that Red John turned out be someone so inconsistent with previously given clues.

For Jisbon shippers, the question now is whether Jane and Lisbon will end up together? Watch the sneak preview of this week's new episode. Spoiler alert, though, Lisbon and Pike will continue to date for a couple more episodes.

The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller is currently working on "Gotham," a DC Comics universe adaptation. This upcoming series will be distributed by Warner Bros. Television.

If there is no The Mentalist Season 7, why did Amanda Righetti and Owain Yeoman (who play Grace Van Pelt and Wayne Rigsby, respectively) have to exit the series? Yeoman on his Twitter page did not elaborate on the reasons, but said he will miss Rigsby.

John De Lancie and Jud Tylor are guest stars on The Mentalist Season 6, Episode 17. The next new episode, "Forest Green," airs on Apr. 20.

Simon Baker’s Jane and jealousy (6x17)

On Sunday night’s “Silver Wings of Time” episode of “The Mentalist,” Jane and Lisbon are going to spend a ton of time together. In turn, this means that Jane is going to have a ton of time to start to get jealous over the fact that there is a new man in his partner’s life.

So is Jane finally going to start to play the jealous card? Maybe … but right now, he’s more into the “I don’t want to admit that I’m jealous” phase. Just look at his expression below when he listens to a conversation between Lisbon and Marcus Pike over some sort of plan they have coming up in the next few days. Pike’s not even there, and Jane is already acting like someone has come and taken away his birthday present five minutes after he received it.

This is one of the strongest signs yet from Simon Baker’s character that maybe the show is finally heading in that direction, which is good in that “The Mentalist” has never been a show without a goal. For six years, that goal was taking out Red John once and for all; lately, the only long-form story we’ve had is the one that led to Van Pelt and Rigsby getting back to their new life after former members of the CBI were being targeted. A romance is always an effective long-term storyline, especially when you’ve waited for it as long as we have here.

While the show’s future remains in doubt, let’s say this: If the show does wrap things up on CBS this year, they need to at least give some sort of inkling that Jane’s life is heading in a hopeful direction (hopefully with Lisbon). Otherwise, there was no reason to continue the story after Red John had been killed.

Jane reopens old wounds in 'Silver Hands of Time' (6x17 sneak peek)

Sunday's (April 13) episode of "The Mentalist" has Jane and Lisbon reworking a case involving a death row inmate. As we know from countless other crime shows, re-interviewing people in such cases can be touchy. Throw in Jane's penchant for out-of-left-field questions and you have a potentially very awkward situation.

All of that is in play in this Zap2it exclusive clip from the episode, "Silver Wings of Time." Jane (Simon Baker) and Lisbon (Robin Tunney) speak with the murder victim's husband, Edward Feinberg (guest star John De Lancie), and his current wife, Mae (Jud Tylor), and they seem genuinely thrown by some of Jane's questions and observations.

Watch video here

Will it matter whether Mae Feinberg's father went to her high school graduation? Maybe, maybe not. But we'd be willing to bet that whatever Jane wants to see in the bathroom will end up having some bearing on the case.

"The Mentalist" airs at 10 p.m. ET/PT Sunday on CBS.

6x20: "Il Tavolo Bianco" (synopsis)

"Il Tavolo Bianco" - Jane's freedom is at stake when a grand jury is empanelled to decide if he should be tried for the murder of Red John. Meanwhile, Lisbon tries to find out how Jane feels about the possibility of her leaving Austin with Agent Pike, and Cho and Abbott follow new leads in the human smuggling ring they recently uncovered, on THE MENTALIST, Sunday, May 4 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Lisbon Leaving Jane Behind To Move To D.C.? Will This End Any Chance Of Romance? (spoilers)

"The Mentalist" season 6 spoilers is up and Teresa Lisbon is asked by Agent Pike to move in with him in D.C. and that could mean the end of the any prospect of romance between her and Patrick Jane.

For six seasons, both Lisbon and Jane have been skirting around the issue at hand even though they clearly have feelings for each other. A good chunk of the blame rests on Jane particularly his feelings after the Red John debacle.

Then here comes Agent Pike (Pedro Pascal) who's offering what Jane hasn't yet-a chance to build a future together, outside of work, and he's also smitten with Lisbon.

"The Mentalist" season 6 spoilers so far haven't really provided an indication that Jane is making a move on Lisbon but CarterMatt suggested that "maybe 'Brown Eyed Girls' will be the inspiration for this guy to finally make a move."

There are only three more episodes after "Brown Eyed Girls" on April 27 to give fans closure on the relationship between Jane and Lisbon if the show concludes in May.

"Another reason that he may need to make a move on Lisbon now? Remember that the future of the show is in jeopardy. There is no word yet on a season 7 renewal, and at the time that CBS makes up their mind on the show's future, production will most likely be long over," the blogsite said.

The "The Mentalist" Season 6 episode 17 will air Sunday and according to the official spoiler released by CBS, Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) only has two days to conclude an investigation with the life of an innocent man at stake.

"Silver Wings of Time" could also tackle some more the Patrick Jane and Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) romance since in the previous episode, fans watched her accept a date proposal from Agent Pike.

Hmm, What (or Who) Made Lisbon Late to a Crime Scene…? (Sneak Peek #2, 6x17 "Silver Wings Of Time")

Teresa Lisbon is atypically late for a very important date… with a crime scene, on this Sunday’s The Mentalist (CBS, 10/9c) — the question is why?

Might it have to do with her first “pancakes” date with new acquaintance Marcus Pike?

If you’re curious, rest assured that so is Lisbon’s partner in crimefighting — as seen in this exclusive clip from the episode, in which Jane takes up the cause of a death row inmate who has two days to prove his innocence. John De Lancie (Star Trek: TNG) guest-stars as Jane’s latest foil.

Two new sneak peeks for "Silver Wings of Time" won't tell viewers anything about the case of the week, but they will help inform Lisbon (Robin Tunney) and Jane's (Simon Baker) tenuous friendship in the wake of Lisbon's date with Agent Marcus Pike (Pedro Pascal).

Picking up the morning after "Violets," Lisbon will drop by this week's crime scene in a taxi and Jane will be quick to realize why, even if Lisbon claims the cab is only because her car broke down. Meanwhile, the former CBI agent will be keeping her voice low as she sets up another date with the art squad member with Jane standing nearby

What could take Lisbon away from Jane? (6x19)

For six years on “The Mentalist,” Jane and Lisbon have for the most part found a way to work together, trust in each other, and also solve a boatload of cases. So is there anything that could potentially tear them apart? As it turns out yes, though not exactly in a way that is even remotely malicious.

Instead, you have a man in Agent Pike who is thinking about his future, clearly likes Lisbon, and would love to have an opportunity to build a life with her. He’s not some mustache-twirling supervillain out to destroy anyone, even though we are still hoping that for her to end up with Jane.

Maybe “Brown Eyed Girls” will be the inspiration for this guy to finally make a move … and we hope so, given that this is the 19th episode of the season (airing on April 27), and there are only three more after this to give us a reasonably conclusion in the event that the show ends in May.

Take a look at the new synopsis for a few more hints:

“A chance encounter with a suspicious-looking individual leads Jane and Lisbon to uncover a vast human smuggling ring. Meanwhile, Lisbon remains tempted by Pike’s offer to move to D.C. with him.”

The only Jane / Lisbon scoop in here is that the two are at least spending time on the job together again, and we are happy about that … even if it doesn’t by any means equate with them being romantic. The show’s going to have a lot of ground to cover here in a short time, mostly because we don’t feel like Patrick was really processing his feelings very much after the death of Red John. He’s still trying to figure himself out, and what he wants moving forward. Hopefully, she ends up being a part of that equation; otherwise, it feels like the biggest tease ever and a disappointment.
